Danish brewer Carlsberg A/S is preparing to publicly file documents for an initial public offering of its Indian business as early as this week, targeting a potential share sale of up to $700 million, Economic Times Markets reported on October 21, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

Investor roadshows are expected to begin next week, and the IPO could launch as early as December. Neither the timetable nor the transaction terms are final: discussions continue, and the offering’s size, structure and timing could change.

The proposed offering is expected to comprise only a secondary sale of shares by the Danish brewer. That would mean the proceeds go to the selling shareholder rather than provide fresh capital to the Indian business.

Confidential filing preceded proposed public offer

Carlsberg confidentially submitted draft IPO documents in July, according to the report. It is working with Kotak Mahindra Capital and the Indian units of JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup on the proposed offering.

A Carlsberg representative did not immediately respond to the outlet’s request for comment. The reported plans therefore remain based on unnamed sources rather than a public company confirmation.

The report describes Carlsberg India as the country’s second-largest brewer, with roughly 22% market share. The company entered India in 2007 and operates seven breweries nationwide, it said, citing the company’s website for its operating footprint.

India’s new-share market gathers pace

The prospective listing comes amid a recovery in Indian IPO activity following a subdued first half of 2026. Companies have raised approximately $14.4 billion through first-time share sales so far this year, against a record $22 billion across the whole of 2025, the report said. The figures cover different lengths of time and are not a like-for-like annual comparison.

As another sign of demand, the report said Jio Platforms’ $3.2 billion offering was fully subscribed within hours of bidding opening on Wednesday, October 21.
