An avalanche swept seven mountaineers into Laguna del Inca near Chile’s Portillo ski resort on October 17, killing at least three and injuring four, India Global Review reported, citing a local prosecutor.
Police and firefighters joined a large rescue operation, with a helicopter circling above the lagoon. Deputy Prosecutor Pamela Ruiz said one of the injured was in critical condition and had been flown to a hospital in Los Andes.
Recovery efforts for the remaining body were expected to restart on October 18, subject to weather conditions.
