At least four people were killed and two critically injured when a minibus left the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Kota and plunged into a drain about 15 feet deep early on Saturday, October 17. The Economic Times, citing Simliya Station House Officer Nand Singh, reported that around 17 passengers were aboard. The crash occurred at approximately 6 am near pole number 384, within Simliya police station limits.
Rescuers faced difficult conditions because water and silt had collected in the drain. Cranes were brought in to recover the damaged minibus and reach passengers trapped inside. Singh said four bodies had been recovered, while several passengers had sustained minor injuries in addition to the two critically hurt.
Three ambulances were deployed to take the injured to nearby medical facilities, including New Medical College Hospital and MBS Hospital. Singh cautioned that the death toll could increase as rescue work continued. The deceased and injured had yet to be identified. The report did not establish why the minibus veered off the road; casualty figures reflect the source-reported position during the ongoing operation.
