European shares extended their decline on Tuesday, October 20, as political unrest in France weighed on investor sentiment, according to Economic Times Markets. The pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.27% at 637.84 points at 0709 GMT, following a 0.8% decline in the previous session. France’s CAC 40 slipped 0.2%.
French authorities imposed curfews in parts of several cities, including Paris, Lille and Nice, late on Monday after a weekend of riots and looting linked to nationwide anti-government protests, the report said. The unrest adds pressure on the euro zone’s second-largest economy as weak growth and rising government debt complicate efforts to narrow its large fiscal deficit.
OVHcloud gains as Barco’s outlook disappoints
Corporate announcements produced sharply different share-price reactions. French cloud-services company OVHcloud rose 8.5% after announcing its first positive levered free cash flow since its 2021 listing. Revenue increased 7.2% to €1.15 billion in the financial year ending in August.
Visualisation technology company Barco fell 12.9% after forecasting full-year sales slightly below the previous year’s level and an EBITDA margin of about 11%. The market figures reflect the report’s trading snapshot, not closing prices or a live market feed.
