France Prepares Soldier Deployment Amid Fears of Fresh Unrest

France is preparing to deploy soldiers ahead of feared weekend unrest, with curfews in place and riot police already on the streets, according to India Global Review’s October 22 report. Its summary describes preparations for a military deployment, rather than confirming that soldiers have been deployed.

The report links the prospect of fresh protests to public anger and political divisions as the government struggles to advance spending cuts. It describes talks as offering little certainty of a resolution, but does not specify the proposed military deployment’s location, scale or duties.
