Five members of a family, including three children aged three to 11, were found dead at their home in a village in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, October 17. India Today reported, citing police, that food poisoning was suspected, though the cause of death had not been established.

Police identified the deceased as Mahesh, 37, his wife Lalita, 35, and their children Laddu, 11, Mishti, seven, and Sakshat, three. Rabupura police station received information about the deaths that morning. Local police, senior officers, an ambulance and a Food Safety Department team subsequently arrived at the home.

According to police, Mahesh’s mother and neighbours said the family had eaten noodles the previous night. That account does not establish what caused the deaths. A forensic team and a field unit inspected the home and were collecting scientific evidence, while the bodies were being sent for post-mortem examinations. Police said the cause would be determined through those examinations and other scientific tests, with further legal action based on the findings.
