At least 19 people were killed and 25 injured in a stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata on Maha Saptami, India Global Review reported on October 18. Seven people, including puja organisers, have been arrested, and police have registered a culpable homicide case.
A special investigation team is examining possible crowd-management failures, confusion about entry and exit routes, and whether announcements or security whistles set off the rush. These remain lines of inquiry, not established causes; the arrests do not establish guilt.
Amit Shah and the West Bengal Chief Minister visited the injured, according to the report. The casualty figures are a source-reported snapshot, not a live update.
