Tech Mahindra shares fell 2.1% to an intraday low of Rs 1,751.25 on the BSE on Monday, October 19, following a 22% rise over four days after its quarterly results. Economic Times Markets attributed the decline to profit-taking and also reported a sharp sell-off in AI-linked stocks.

The retreat came despite stronger second-quarter earnings. Brokerage assessments differed over how much of the company's growth prospects the share price already reflected: Nuvama maintained a Buy recommendation, Nomura remained Neutral and Choice Institutional Equities retained an Add rating. The quoted share price is a reported intraday snapshot, not a closing price or a live update.

Profit growth outpaces revenue

Consolidated net profit attributable to owners rose 32.7% year on year to Rs 1,585.6 crore in Q2FY27, against Rs 1,194.5 crore a year earlier. Revenue from operations increased 15.6% to Rs 16,180.2 crore from Rs 13,994.9 crore.

EBITDA climbed 32.8% to Rs 2,878.5 crore, compared with Rs 2,168 crore in Q2FY26. Separately, management kept its target for an average FY27 EBIT margin of 15% unchanged. That remains a full-year objective, not a reported quarterly margin.

Management identified AI-enabled productivity, the conversion of time-and-material contracts to fixed-price arrangements and operating efficiencies under Project Fortius as routes to margin improvement over FY26.

Technical focus turns to Rs 1,690–1,700 support

Sudeep Shah, Vice President and Head of Technical & Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, said the stock had moved decisively above its previous swing high of Rs 1,687, reached on July 29. He pointed to sharply rising RSI and MACD indicators as signs of strengthening bullish momentum.

Shah identified Rs 1,690–1,700 as the immediate support band and made his expectation of a further upward move conditional on the stock holding above that area. This is a technical assessment, not an assurance that the price will remain above support.

Brokerages differ on valuation and the next growth phase

Nomura retained its Neutral stance and saw no upside in the stock, even as it forecast growth ahead of peers in FY27. Its operating outlook rests on the ramp-up of two large telecom contracts secured in the second half of FY26 and expansion in other business verticals.

With management having largely delivered its three-year goals, Nomura expects attention to shift to the next growth strategy—particularly whether Tech Mahindra can spread growth more widely across its businesses.

Nuvama kept a Buy rating with a Rs 1,950 target. It cited four successive quarters with deal wins above $1 billion as a basis for expecting Tech Mahindra to lead its large-cap peers on FY27 growth. It also expects margins to move towards the company's 15% goal.

Nuvama projected a 25% compound annual growth rate in earnings over the next two years. In its assessment, that outlook warrants a valuation comparable to LTIMindtree rather than the three largest IT companies. The earnings trajectory is a brokerage forecast, not an achieved result.

Choice watches AI execution and sector demand

Choice Institutional Equities retained an Add recommendation and a Rs 1,775 target. It highlighted potential productivity gains from AI toolchains, changes to the workforce mix and the release of headcount.

The brokerage described TechM Helix as moving beyond capability development into execution at scale, with AI revenue disclosure due to begin in the second half of FY27. It also cited a strong communications-sector pipeline, an expected return to growth above 8% in banking, financial services and insurance, and manageable weakness in European automotive demand.

The ratings, price targets and technical levels are the respective analysts' views, not BharatVox investment recommendations.
