Hindustan Zinc reported a 142% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 6,412 crore for the July–September quarter of FY27, according to Economic Times Markets. The results, announced on Monday, October 19, put quarterly profit well above the Rs 2,649 crore recorded a year earlier.
Revenue from operations rose about 76.5% to Rs 15,093 crore from Rs 8,549 crore. Higher metal prices, increased metal production, stronger by-product realisations and a stronger dollar supported the increase.
Silver sales surge as operating margin expands
EBITDA—earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation—rose around 108% to Rs 9,285 crore. The EBITDA margin reached 62%, compared with 52% in the corresponding quarter last year. Total expenses increased nearly 31.5% to Rs 6,895 crore, a slower pace than revenue growth.
Net silver sales climbed 141% year on year to Rs 4,111 crore, while zinc sales increased 54% to Rs 8,224 crore. Lead sales rose 35%, and sales of other metals increased 151%.
Production rises and unit costs decline
Zinc production cost, excluding royalty, stood at $703 per tonne, down 29% from a year earlier. The company attributed the improvement to better mined grades, increased metal production, greater renewable-power consumption and higher by-product realisations.
Those gains were partly offset by lower domestic coal usage and higher input commodity prices, which the company linked to global geopolitical pressures.
Chief executive Amarendu Prakash described quarterly mined metal output of 271 kilotonnes and refined metal output of 264 kilotonnes as records. He said the company would pursue disciplined growth, AI-led innovation and an expanded critical-minerals portfolio to support India’s energy transition.
Chief financial officer Amit Gupta emphasised financial discipline and productivity, citing the operating margin, cash generation and balance sheet. He said growth investment and financial resilience remained priorities.
Shares remain lower for the calendar year
The report put Hindustan Zinc shares down around 2% over a week, 10% over a month and more than 12% in calendar 2026 to date, despite an approximately 8% gain over one year. These are reported performance snapshots, not a live quote or a measure of the market’s reaction to the earnings announcement.
Over longer periods, the stock had gained 71% in three years and 46% in five years. The company’s reported market capitalisation exceeded Rs 2.28 lakh crore.
