Urban Company shares fall 7% as Q2 loss widens to Rs 182 crore
Urban Company’s revenue rose 41% in Q2 FY27, but investment in InstaHelp pushed its net loss to Rs 182 crore. Motilal Oswal retained a Neutral rating and lowered its share-price target to Rs 165, highlighting uncertainty over pricing and profitability.

Urban Company shares dropped more than 7% to Rs 146.50 on the NSE on Monday, October 19, after the home-services platform reported a July–September FY27 net loss of Rs 182 crore, against Rs 59 crore a year earlier. The Economic Times Markets reported that increased investment in its quick home-services business, InstaHelp, drove the wider loss.
Revenue from operations grew 41% year-on-year to Rs 537 crore. The results showed a widening gap between strong demand growth and consolidated profitability as the company continued to fund its newer service offering. The reported share price is a trading-session snapshot, not a live quote.

Order growth rises sharply, but InstaHelp weighs on earnings
Urban Company’s net transaction value, or NTV, increased 39% year-on-year to Rs 1,432 crore. Orders delivered more than doubled, rising 103% to 15.1 million, while annual transacting users increased 35% to nearly 10 million.
The company said consolidated NTV had expanded by around 40% year-on-year for three successive quarters, helped by customer acquisition, repeat use and entry into newer markets. New-user acquisition increased 46% year-on-year over that period.
Consolidated adjusted EBITDA showed a loss of Rs 144 crore, reflecting Rs 174 crore of investment in InstaHelp. Excluding that business, adjusted EBITDA rose 213% year-on-year to Rs 30 crore. This adjusted operating measure is distinct from the company’s reported net loss.
InstaHelp volumes grow as order values decline
InstaHelp fulfilled 6.2 million orders during the quarter, up 63% from the preceding quarter. Its NTV increased 34% sequentially to Rs 71 crore.
However, net order value fell to Rs 114 from Rs 138, reflecting competition and introductory prices for new customers. The lower value per order is central to the profitability concerns raised by Motilal Oswal: rapid volume growth alone may not deliver sustainable economics at current prices.
The brokerage said steady-state economics require pricing of Rs 200 per hour and net order value of Rs 300, compared with a worker payout of Rs 150 per hour. It identified the speed of pricing normalisation as a key factor to watch and expects investment in InstaHelp to continue over the next few years.
Motilal Oswal keeps Neutral, lowers target to Rs 165
Motilal Oswal retained its Neutral rating but cut its target price to Rs 165 per share. The target represented a little over 4% upside from the previous closing price—not from Monday’s reported price of Rs 146.50.
The brokerage said consolidated NTV was broadly in line with its estimate. It also pointed to scope for expansion, with penetration in the largest service categories still below 10% across the top eight cities.
Nevertheless, Motilal Oswal judged that current valuations largely capture the value of the core business. Continued funding requirements for InstaHelp and uncertainty about the path to profitability through FY31 leave the risk-reward balanced, in its assessment. Neutral is the brokerage’s position, not a BharatVox buy or sell recommendation.
Profitability milestones remain targets
Urban Company said it remained on course to reach adjusted EBITDA breakeven in the third quarter of FY28 and adjusted EBITDA of Rs 1,000 crore by FY31. Separately, Motilal Oswal said InstaHelp is targeting breakeven by FY31.
These are forward-looking milestones rather than achieved results. The distinction between the company’s broader adjusted EBITDA goal and InstaHelp’s later breakeven target matters when assessing how long the newer business may require funding.
